XMTuner:Service
From XMTuner
[edit] The XMTuner Service
When installed, XMTuner (0.2 and higher) offers in addition to the main application, a background service that can optionally be installed. The service, is the same as the main XMTuner application in functionality, except, its designed to run in background, as something Windows calls a "Service", meaning it will run when your computer starts up and does not require you to be logged in. Ideal for Home Server or Media Center machines, or any situation where you won't be wanting to interact with XMTuner itself.
[edit] Installing and Configuring the Service (XMTuner 0.2 - 0.5.x)
To install the service:
- Once XMTuner is installed, run and configure the application. (See Setup)
- On the Service tab, choose the Install button to install the service.
- To start the service, click the "Start" button under service control, making sure that XMTuner's server is stopped first.
Configuration Notes:
- XMTunerService and XMTuner share the same configuration file. So configuration changes in the application will apply to the service. There is currently no options that don't apply to both applications
- To function correctly, the autologin option must be enabled, or the service does not login to XM Radio Online/Sirius Internet Radio when it starts up. (This will be resolved in a future version.)
- Because they share a configuration, they also will share the same port number, as a result, you cannot use the service at the same time as the main application, and have the main application's server started. (The main application will detect if the service is running and not start the server automatically, allowing you to run the application to adjust the service's configuration as needed.)
